An irritating remote - how do I restore it's 'click'?

I've a sony remote control with a sliding panel that has started to wear loose. It relies on slight friction and resistance of the plastic which has slightly worn over time (bit of a design fault) This is irritating as it means the panel that conceals the record buttons (so you don't accidentially press them) now slides open each time the remote is picked up.
While this isn't fatal I'm a fussy old soul who prefers for things not to look tatty and I know I'll end up snapping the sliding flap off eventually. Can anyone offer a tip to restore the friction and the 'click' - a new remote (it's for a DVD recorder) is the absurd price of £80.
Thanks in advance.

I do hope you're telling the truth?
