Looking for reliable camper van

I'm looking for a camper van for my daughter..........She fancies a VW camper, but I'd like anyones opinion and recommendations for any kind of van of this size and things to look out for.
I quite like the VW, but was wondering if it would be worth looking for a diesel which I assume would be more economical.
Safety, reliability, economy and low running costs are the main priority.......And of course, cost.
Not asking for much am I.
Thanks

what age and budget do you have in mind? you wont find traditional VW camper with a diesel engine unless its been converted.
the fiat ducato seem a very popular choice.
i would always go diesel on something this size as fuel economy of a petrol engine in something with the aerodynamics of a brick will always be poor.

If we get what we want for her old car, I suppose approx £4000 would be the amount we'd be able to raise at the moment.
Perhaps a little more if the right one came along.
Not too concerned about the appearance of the vehicle, a few dents and scratches wouldn't put us off............I'm sure she'll add to them !

for that kind of money then you may find yourself limited for a larger van like this

but there are some smaller dayvans like this

what about buying an old ambulance like this and converting it into a camper van? much cheaper and a nice little project.

Thanks for that............No projects thanks, too old for that !!
The Mazda Bongo seems like a reasonable vehicle........Are they economical and reliable ?
Whatever we get will have to be the smaller kind.
I saw this http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/caravans/SendToAFriend/Ne-0,N-0/advert.action?R=200932339186286 which looked like the kind of thing we wanted. There were some diesel VW campers which looked OK
    Thanks for your time

doesnt look too bad, isnt a bongo, looks like a converted minibus, high miles, though these vans should be good for those kind of miles.

the diesel vw vans in your price range will the 1.6 diesel im guessing? they will be horrendously slow.

it certainly looks the part from the pictures, i remember my dad had one of these as a van years ago and it was possibly the noiseiest van ive even been inside, the camper may be different though, lots of stuff to help deaden the sound rather than an empty van.
im jelous of you, i would love to have my own camper van, when i get some space (and spare funds not designated for a wedding) i will get my self a project campervan i think.

to change the link, just copy your link as normal then what i do is delete most of it and add the word i would like to display onto the end of it without spaces, then simply delete the rest of the letters from the link,im sure there a much more computer techy way to explain this but im not really computer techy minded! i also now highlight it and make it bold so it stands out a bit better from the rest of the text.

look forward to seeing your new link format!

you could also try a subaru samba at www.algysautos.com .

you dont say how old your daughter is but will be a damn sight more reliable than an original vw camper,(make sure you get a 1200 cc one not a 660 cc one if you get one..they also have mazda bongos there
