dodgy seller?

Hi, I won an item - a pair of shoes - and paid via Paypal (Last Night)

Today I was asked to cancel the payment so she could reinvoice me.

I didn't think you could cancel the payment once it had been made and so I am suspicious as to whether the seller is being dodgy. I've never had a problem with ebay before but I'm not an experienced buyer/seller.

My thoughts are that she should refund the item via Paypal and reinvoice me. By trying to cancel the item myself I suspect will create a real mess.

Any advice as to the way forward please and ideas as to what good reason the seller might have for all this hassle. Incidentally the amount of money involved is only about a fiver.

Here are the emails I received from the seller:

Hi,my email address with paypal has changed to XXXXXXXXcom please can you cancel transaction & send me your email adress so i can re send invoice through pay pal, I am really sorry for this but its just not easy to link anything with paypal and ebay. Many Thanks

And

It sounds like she has changed paypal accounts. You are ok to she could always just refund you though)it but if she reinvoices you check that the ebay transaction number is in the invoice and also check she doesn't try and charge more
  • Thanks cyberbob,

It all sounds a bit messy - should I ask her to refund me on the old account to keep it simple?

Whatever you do get the first payment back first, that is the important thing.

When you check in your paypal account does it show as unclaimed? If so it may be impossible for you to get it back anyway and you will have to wait 30 days for it to bounce back as unclaimed.

Stay in touch with your seller, if you can't get the payment back make sure she knows as this is her problem not yours.

it sounds like a simple mistake, my e bay keeps defaulting to my old paypal account and I dont always notice it until the buyer has paid. if she still has access to her old paypal she can refund you, if not then it will show your end as waiting to be claimec / pending which you can cancel

  • Hi all,

I've just checked my paypal account and it is unclaimed.

If I cancel the payment how long before it is refunded to my account, and how will I know the money is back before I pay a second time?

Ok, I have cancelled it and it does seem to be back on my account.

Does she need to know my email address though?

I have sent the following email and a request for a total price.

Hi, I assume that you have changed your Paypal account and are unable to refund the money yourself.

I have cancelled the transaction as per your request, so you are free to re-invoice me. Please ensure the ebay transaction number is in the new invoice.
