not something the switching sites deem worthy enough of mentioning. Why not?

    Hi carmine

Some of the switching sites, but not all, do include our 'no discount on final bills when changing supplier' T&C within their tariff descriptions.

As Helena as said in other threads, she is currently investigating why all the switching sites don't do this. At the moment we are awaiting an explanation. Helena will be happy to give you more info when she has it.

Hi Malc. On the bills it just says "Price Protection plan" and "Price Protection Gas plan". On the online summary page it says "Price Protection 1 October 2009 Electricity" and "Price Protection 1 October 2009 Gas". Does that mean we're on Version 1? Yes we pay by monthly direct debit.

If there are many Price protection tariffs then why are there only a handful to choose from on the comparison websites? on comparison sites I always choose the option that says "Price Protection Oct 2009 (Pre 26th June 08). Is that right?

    Hi jd87

Sounds like you are on the Price Protection tariff rather than Energy Saver which also guarantees prices will not go up during the term of the contract.

It won't be version 1 as this finished in 2006. I suspect it will be between versions 13 to 17. All of which come to an end on 1 October 2009.

In this case, you are on a tariff with no cancellation fee if you change supplier. We will not, though, give discount on the final bill when you change supplier.

As you pay by Direct Debit the discount missing from the final bill will be 9 per cent before VAT.

Not sure if all the comparison sites use a similar format but if you are selecting 'Price Protection Oct 2009 (Pre 26th June 08) I suspect you are choosing either versions 13 or 14.

This may be giving incorrect results if you are on a later version of the product.

The full description of the tariff usually appears on the 'Details of readings and charges' page of the bill. Under Electricity it will be highlighted as Price Protection ?? plan.

As this is missing on your bills would it be possible to post the unit rates you are paying along with the first part of your Post Code? This will let me check all the relevant tariffs to see exactly what tariff you are on.

When tariffs come to an end they will no longer feature on the comparison sites.

Hope this makes things a little clearer. :)

  • My 'Details of readings and charges' on the bill says nothing at all about which tariff I am on!

The bills do not state the tariff. This is confusing and misleading. They just say "Price protection plan" without giving the precise number.
  • I am on Version 14 price protection plan.

Seems a lot of people are a little confused.

Just to clear things up: From what i understand if i change supplier before October 1st then i will lose any discount on final bill?

If the above is the case would i be better(financially) to continue with EON until at least October 1st and either go to the R3 tariff/standard tariff or whatever and then and only then have a look around on comparison sites?

I realise that you are paid by EON but i am hoping for a sort of impartial answer/honest answer.

    Thank you

You don't get any discount on your final bill from E.ON regardless of what tariff you are on. It takes around 4-6 weeks to change supplier so there's no way you could do this before your tariff ends anyway. If you do change supplier then I'd request to go on their standards prices when your current tariff ends as the one you'll automatically be put on will be more expensive than this.

    Hi skintus_mcgintus

Just checked a few Price Protection bills and it appears there was a point when the tariff version number was not included in the 'Details of readings and charges' page on the bills.

Certainly, those I looked at from Price Protection 17 onwards did include the version number. I suspect, therefore, you are on a version prior to this.

To be honest, I don't know why this happened or how widespread it was. I will feed this back to the people looking after billing but hopefully it has already been corrected.

The full title and description of the product is given on the letters sent out each time a tariff is changed. Also, for customers registered with our website, the tariff type and version number are include when logging in.

Sorry you were a victim of the missing description skintus_mcgintus but hope this helps direct you to where the info is available.

    Hi Inforapennyinforapound

To confirm, we definitely don't give discount on final bills. Therefore, a change of supplier needs to be timed to lessen the impact of this.

I would certainly stay on your current tariff until it expires as the unit rates on Price Protection 14 are significantly lower than our more recent tariffs.

As stewie_griffin says, the R3 capped product being offered as a replacement capped tariff is more expensive than other tariffs. If capped prices are no longer for you then there are other cheaper alternatives available from both us and other suppliers.

This would be a good time to pop your usage on to one of the comparison sites and see how we do.

If you decide to change suppliers, I would definitely go on another E.ON tariff whilst the switch goes through. There are several options available which are listed both on our website and the comparison sites.

Make sure you pick one without a cancellation fee. That way, when you move you will only lose discount on the final bill rather than pick up a cancellation fee as well.

Hope this helps but give me a shout if you need more info. Always happy to help. :)

  • Hi there,
I too have had a letter from E.On stating that I will be changing to the R3 deal for dual fuel, but the stated prices for the kWh seem way too expensive. I phoned up E.On to be told that the fixed online v3 tariff is much cheaper than the proposed R3 deal and I guess they rely on people not bothering to switch in order to create a larger profit.

If I put in my usage into the price comparison sites I don't really save any more money by switching supplier either.

I was wondering if anyone else had any suggestions on how to save money using the comparison sites, or maybe it is just that the price protection v.13 had very low kWh costs compared to the rises in prices for todays energy.
  • Hi bluezeroo

Price Protection 13 was available between 6 December 2007 and 6 February 2008.

There have been several price increases between then and now. Therefore, the prices you are paying at the moment will be quite a lot lower than our current tariffs. Hopefully, this will have given you good savings in recent times.

Given this, the letter advising new prices must have come as quite a shock.

Once a capped product ends we will put you on a tariff closest to the one you were previously on. This is why you have been offered another tariff where prices are guaranteed not to increase before a set date.

As with most of our capped products, the R3 carries a premium at the start for guaranteeing not to raise prices before the end date.

It may be protected prices are no longer what you want and you're doing exactly the right thing in checking the comparison sites to find the best deal.

As I have said earlier on this thread, should you decide to change supplier you need to time the switch to lessen the impact of not receiving discount on the final bill.

Hope this helps but give me a shout if you need more info. Glad to help. :)
