Boot Failure!!

Hi all.
My brothers pc has gone down
.
Its saying "boot failure, insert disk". I know very little about pcs so an easy explanation but be nice if you can help out.
Had a look at it, and removed all cds and dvds and floppys, and switched it off and then on again. Still saying the same message and sometimes a blank screen.
Ive looked in the search on here and found some info but still not sure.

Sounds like the hard disk has died. Would be worth checking in the bios to see if the hard disk is still recognised but you will probably be looking at a new drive.0
