Help with a Parking Ticket Please

On 13 August I got a parking ticket in a Private Car Park. There were signs telling me that it was Private but there were also lots of free spaces. The thing is that I had my kids in the car - one was ill, and I was just dropping some keys off at a shop. The alternative to parking in this carpark was on double yellow lines at a bus stop and because of the kids I decided the private car park was safer. I left the kids and ran to the shop to drop the keys off. I returned about 4 minutes later to find 2 traffic wardens writing a ticket. The minute I had left the car they had come over, asked the kids where I was and then started writing the ticket. They were still writing it when I returned. I allowed them to stick it on the car and take a photo of it and I then drove off. It wasn't until I opened the ticket that I noticed that they had stated that I had been there for 10 minutes - I hadn't and the owner of the shop will verify this. The fine is £80 - increasing to £120 if I don't pay within 7 days. The reason for the ticket is that I didn't display a valid permit on private property.

I wrote them a letter explaining the above and have today had a reply saying that they are not prepared to waive the Notice. The ticket hasn't been issued by a Council and I don't know what to do now. Should I pay or should I just ignore the letter which makes me think they'll then increase the amount to £120 and then take me to court. If anyone can give me some advice on what to do next I would be really grateful.

If from a private company then follow steps.

    Step 1

Find a decent folder in your filing cabinet

    Step 2

All correspondances that you receive place in said and file. Do not respond to said letters.

You can even have a file for the different colours that you receive as well.

    Basacially ignore said letters.
I all have learnt is from others on many sites.
    Seek legal help if unsure.
Dont pay Private Parking tickets - they are mere invoices.

    PRESS THANKS

Put the kettle on. Make a cup of tea (or coffee) then take 10 minutes to read some of the recent posts and advice given in this forum and sleep easy. Don't wait for replies to your question as many of the experts on here are suffering from Groundhog Day. (see some posts and you will see what I mean).

I promise you, your case is no different from many of the others and your answers will be no different either.
