Hi since saturday my aol broaband speed has been twice the speed of dial up. At around 0.12MB or 120kb. This is not my download speed but my actual ip profile. I am very confused of this as when i go to my routers homepage is i get a bandwidth of 2336/448 down/up.
Output Power (dBm) up/down = 11.5 / 17.0 Attenuation (dB) up/down = 31.5 / 55.0
Noise Margin (dB) up/down = 20.0 / 9.5
I have tested from both my main socket and the test one. My router is a speedtouch 580, however i dont think the problems there, although when I do ring AOL, they say it is, but theyre all reading from a script I think. Is there anything I can do to put my connection back up to 1.6meg.
Also i pay for 'up to 8meg' but i live 2.6km from the exchange. Is 1.6mb connection about right 2.6km away, because i didnt think the quality would have detoriated that bad from 8mb to 1.6.
Thanks for you help guys im at breaking point with AO Hell

Hi, what OS and Anti Virus programme are you running?
What did you do on Saturday? Install anything new?0 -
I have about 3 laptop's an xbox and a playstation and wheter its via ethernet or wireless, the speeds are the same. Its not my PC whats the problem mate.
And when i test it also i make sure only 1 pc is on
Oh and no didnt install anything new, just turned the pc on and went to bbc and when it took about 2 minutes to load i was thinking something was wrong, so i ran a speedtest and that confirmed it0 -
An overnight change on that many machines sounds like AOHell to me. Do you have access to a different router to try?0
-
sadly i dont mate, so i cant eliminate the problem, am gonna try to find the old wired router, but im not sure if i got rid of it or not0
-
Where are you? I have a couple of spares lol0
-
just found the wired router, sadly its a usb one so i will need to find some drivers. to be honest i want this not to work really as i need the wireless functions, im hoping that aol are just having problems.0
-
How long have you been with them? Worth looking to move to someone else?0
-
well i would but my exchange is not unbundled and i get unlimited 01 02 03 calls with unlimited broadband for 14.99 a month, so if you can find a deal which is as good as that then i may do so. But until then i think im going to ride the storm0
-
Nearly as good as the deal I get with Orange then
Same as you, £5 per month 0 -
Drops in ipprofile are caused by instability on the line. Could be almost anything that caused the problem but it should self-correct in 1-5 days.
On crappy BT IPstream based products it is a fact of life. Check to see if you can get either Sky/UKOnline (will appear as Easynet) or Be/O2 LLU at your exchange - http://www.samknows.com/broadband/search.php If you can then consider moving.0
