For customers on fixed tariff (2011) you can get your boiler serviced for a pound (offer until 4 Sept). This seems too good to be true - any catches? Will they identify work that needs to be done? Anyone any experience of BG boiler services?0

I got a letter in the post - "A special thank you for signing up until 2011". It's addressed to me at my address. The leaflet says that my loyalty means a lot... I have to ring a number and quote a reference.0

This is a standard one-off boiler service, but for only £1. No catches, at least that's my understanding (but the offer isn't open to everyone, as has already been said on this thread- sorry!).
The service is to make sure that your boiler is safe- so it'll check the gas pressure, boiler emissions ("flue test") and that the controls/etc is working safely. The service will therefore tell you if there's anything dangerous that needs to be fixed, but won't actually fix any problems if they do exist.
It's a very good offer, but then I would say that as I work for BG.0 -
Instead of being given a quote for free you are having to pay £1 for a quote.0

Mmm.. not really, KimYeovil.
This is more to check that your boiler is working safely, not to see whether or not your boiler is working. If you know it's faulty, then get a (free) quote to have it repaired. If you want peace of mind around (amongst other things) carbon monoxide emissions, then get a service/safety check.
This is a preventative service, not a corrective service.0 -
We were due to have our boiler serviced today, but alas no one turned up. I have unfortunately lost the letter with the promotion code and telephone number. The enquiry number for British Gas bounced me around for 40 minutes and everyone I spoke to denied all knowledge of this offer for 'loyal customers'. If anyone could help with the correct telephone number I would be very grateful.0
