Half Price meat boxes

It *is* organic, higher welfare meat. That incures higher costs for the producers. As much as the producers would like to be able to sell at prices near to what the supermarkets do, it's just not possible.
But for those of us who use meat and are concerned about the welfare of the animals who provide their meat, the half price offer is bl00dy good.0 -

totally agree. OH and I are firmly of the opinion that we would rather pay a little more ( and know the animal and farmer arent being short changed ) and eat less, then buy supermarket meat, where you dont have a clue where its come from, who "grew it" and shudder at the life it probably lead.Kent Bird!:beer:0 -

we would have to at least have the medium box and £42.50 is more than i would want to pay, and thats half price?!
no thanks!
Seems a bit odd to post on this thread if you aren't interested0 -

True, especially when you consider that it's quite legal for supermarkets to label the meat as British even if it's come from another country, as long as it's been processed in Britain. It's scandalous that they're allowed to do that.0 -

It's quite legal for butchers to do that too.0 -

He didn't say he wasn't interested, just that it was too expensive.0 -

Very true.
But..and a very big one, most reputable butchers wouldnt, Simply because its their reputation at stake ( hehehe Steak! )
I know that I spend a lot of money on meat, I work at Tesco, and I see people coming through with their "3 for a tenner" meats, I dont judge, but I do wonder if the person buying realises the truth about cheap meat.
For me, buying from a good butcher/organic, isnt just about "being better for you" its also about supporting the little guy, trying to keep them in business, when Tesco and Sainsburys are killing them off. But also the Flavour...there really is such a huge difference, that you dont "need" so much meat on your plateKent Bird!:beer:0 -

Why not, it's perfectly legal. We have 3 butchers in my town, all three have very good reputations and all sell pre-packed meat labelled British, but we can't be certain where it came from.
What about the ones who are not so reputable? What about the ones who are in real danger of going bust if they don't do something to increase their profits?
I'm sorry, but being a butcher does not mean you are honest, and if it is legal to sell something then a butcher will sell it just as any other shop would.0 -
Thats why I said reputable!
I know for a fact, that butcher I use ( M and B farms Stockbury ) Produces most of what they sell themselves, and right outside the shop there is the proof.
If there are butchers in your town who are in real danger of going bust, then I would personally try to support them as best I can.
You clearly arent happy with the whole concept of "organic" or or butchers in general, and thats fine. Im much happier knowing that im supporting British Farmers/Butchers and ditto Greengrocers, than I would be if I was buying "Value/SmartPrice/Basics" Chicken of dubious origin/slaughter method and production methodKent Bird!:beer:0 -
Our butcher gets his meat from local farms, one of them being his father's farm. There's a blackboard up in the shop saying where that weeks meat is from, with the farmers name.0
