Dependent on your OS, you need to right click on your Desktop screen and adjust your display settings.

Would need to know your OS and display size to be more accurate.

right click on your desktop, click on properties, click on settings tab, then adjust the 'resolution' slider and click on apply. keep trying different resolutions until you find one that looks right

As above really! assuming you're on windows, right click your desktop screen, click properties (or personalize if your on vista), and click display settings. there you can alter your screens resolution!

edit - beaten to it lol
This thread has me so pumped, I headbutted my dog and we both screamed.

The resolution slider should always be at the far right, the maximum resolution, otherwise it's smearing the individual dots of the picture over multiple pixels so it will be blurry (sorry that's not a very good explanation, I'm sure someone else can do better...). Although depending on eyesight + how far you are from the screen etc it might not matter if it's blurry.
If setting it to maximum resolution makes the text too small, just adjust the text size under the 'accessability settings'.

Is it everything on your laptop or just web pages?

Web pages can be magnified and shrunk by holding down CTRL and using your mouse scroll button.

I magnified mine by accident once and it took me ages to find out how..
