I'm fortunate enough to be an existing cardholder of both Egg Money and the Capital One World MC (though I guesss the Cap One basically seems to be losing it's "World" status).

I don't really have any problem with the changes by either provider - I get the new extra benefits from Egg without the annual fee, and Cap One are paying me extra cashback instead of insurance I never used anyway. And they both still pay 1% cashback...

same as above - although for now i have switched to using a long term "0% on purchases" card (halifax) due to my offset mortgage

the £10 is showing as a credit on the statement now by the ways!

Has anyone found a card which offers similar excess protection? This was the feature I valued most about the card and the one that will definitely make me switch. I looked at the Egg money card and I think it has travel insurance but not excess protection (although there is a statement about 'no excess' but I think that just means you don't pay excess on the insurance)

  • I have booked 100% of my flight tickets to the card, as well as the car rental I did in my recent holiday. Unfortunately I had a small accident with the car and have been charged $600 excess charge (also on the card). How do I go about claiming this on the CDW part of theTravel Insurance ? Does anyone have experience of claiming on the Capital One Travel Insurance ?
    Thanks in advance
  • I am in the process of claiming for a small amount of hospital costs and change of flight. The number for claims is 020 82537401. Try them and see if they can help you first, it might save you 5 mins of going through the whole entering card number etc on the number given on the back of the card.

My experience with the Travel Assistance was really bad - in the end I left it till I got to London to contact them again.

I hope you are luckier than I have been and don't have to spend 15 minutes in cues.
  • Hi Piluca

I did call the AIG claims line that you refer to and they only had a claims form for medical expenses. I said that I wanted to claim for the excess of the CDW car rental and they told me to write in with the details. It just does not sound very professional. I just wanted some more information to ensure they do not find some stupid excuse to reject my claim. I have requested that Capital One send me the policy so I can see exactly the terms and conditions and process for claiming. On your claim, do you have any kind of excess or do expect to be paid in full ?

I am not using the Travel Assistance line at all. I am already back in London.

Thank you in advance for any advice.

  • The insurance booklet says all claims must be in writing and to call 08452 340 788 for a Claims Notification Form.
  • Hi Sami,
Sorry the number was of no help - and sounds like they were of no help either! I'm still filling in my forms - asking you to write in sounds odd - I hope you called again and requested a form as Chris2000 suggested. Keep at it and good luck!
