So annoyed with car sales people

2 months ago I bought a new car. When I say it's new I mean new to me but it's actually 4 years old but it was a decent deal and my old car had started to get more and more going wrong with it.

Anyway I saw the car, test drove it and liked it, we agreed a part exchange price for my old car which was £500 more than anywhere else had offered so we did the deal. My grandma gave me the rest of the balance because of the situation i'm in at the moment so I paid the rest on my debit card and happy days (or so I thought).

I noticed when I took the car for a test drive that it was due a service in the next 1500 miles so I mentioned it and the salesman spoke to some bloke who I know know is the finance director and came back to say that if I could wait a couple of days before picking it up the would service it for me at no extra charge. I was please with this and agreed to come back 3 days later to pick up my shiny new car.

I then got a phone call to say they had found a couple of problems with it and needed to get a specialist electrician out and this could put everything back a week. Again I agreed to this. Eventually 2 and a half weeks I got my car and it turns out that they had to spend about £1000 on it to get it right. They also gave me a years warranty as an apology.

Since then the car has been back twice with further problems which they said had now been sorted out.

On Thursday I went shopping came out of the supermarket 10 minutes later and there was no power in the battery at all. When I went in the fan was on dispite only being driven 3 miles down the road, the RAC man came out and tested everything and said the temperature gage was reading about 95 but the actual temp of everything was only about 50 degrees and this was the problem and why the fan kept coming on for such long periods which had drained the battery. This is a problem they had told me had been looked into and sorted out.

So back the car went, this was last Thursday and I was supposed to be getting a courtesy car today as they need a specialist to come back out again which he can't do until Wednesday. But I got a phone call today saying that there wasn't actually a car I could use due to some sort of !!!! up.

I am fuming about this now and we're supposed to be going away over the bank holiday weekend for which we need a car. The garage can't say if mine will be ready or not by Thursday and don't think they'll have a courtesy car we'll be able to use.

I am seriously considering hiring a car and billing the car sales people for it or even just going to the showroom and if the have a car for roughly what I paid for mine saying give me that one instead and resell mine.

I see you are in Castleford - it wasn't the Ford Dealership next door to Pizza Hut near the Outlet centre was it? Or Carcraft? My girlfriend and I have had bad experiences with both of these!!

I am assuming it was the Car People branch at Wakefield? I am not sure where you would stand with asking them to met the cost of a hire car - I guess they could do it out of good will, but do not have an obligation. At least you have a 12 month warranty now, so hopefully any future problems will be covered. It's not a Citroen/Peugeot/Renault is it? they have a bit of a reputation for electrical problems.

I know a couple of people who have used a different branch of The Car people and been happy - though they actually said that the part-ex was lower than elsewhere, but overalll price of cars was cheaper.

OMG I didn't realise that there was The Car People... I must point out that it isn't any branch of Car People. I have tried to change the name of the thread but can't do it.

It's a Peugeot 407 though so good guess.

Why would the fan be on if the engine was cooler than it's specified normal operating temperature?

Because the temp sender is kaput?

That would seem to be the obvious fault, but that is such an inexpensive item and would take any competent mechanic about 10 minutes to fit a new one. I can't understand why they would need a specialist to do it

Because they say it's more than that. It's something to do with the ECU and the computer or something like that. I know naff all about cars. All I know is it's some sort of Peugeot electrician that's coming to sort it out.

Sounds like you bought a lemon, you might be best to try and get them to take it back.

I'm hoping that when I get it back then everything will be sorted and that i've just been unlucky this last few weeks. I really like the car but anything else I might see if they'll do anything about taking it back.
