Do it Yourself House Conveyincing (sp?)

I have tried to search on this matter but couldn't find anything, but it may be because i cannot spell!
My partner moved out 2 years ago and has agreed to sign the house over to me, but has said that i have to pay all of the fees etc.
Halifax want £160 for taking his name off of the mortgage and the solicitor wants £400 (approx) to remove his name from the deeds.
Is it possible to do the solictors part yourself?
Has anyone ever done this?
I am geared up for hard work and a bit of letter writing/telephone calls in order to save some money, i just don't know where to begin ...
Thank you in advance x

From what you have said you will still have a mortgage with Halifax and they will want a solicitor involved to protect their interests. Therefore you are not going to save very much if you say you do not want a solicitor because you will still have to pay for one to represent Halifax.RICHARD WEBSTER
As a retired conveyancing solicitor I believe the information given in the post to be useful assuming any properties concerned are in England/Wales but I accept no liability for it.0 -
just gone through this myself. £160 for mortgage application fees, and £400 solicitor is about right. Remember you will have a £200 land registry fee too.
Also, check with your solicitor if your liable for stamp duty!0 -
What if there was no mortgage, and one partner paid the other cash. Would there be any way to reduce solicitors costs.0

You could do it yourself if you are happy completing the Land Registry TR1, AP1, and ID forms.RICHARD WEBSTER
