Which mattress

  • Hi Tim
I can't find a name on the mattress and I can't remember who we bought it from on ebay. I have looked within its cover and noticed that there are 2 types of foam, the bottom layer looks like normal foam and then there is a thin layer of what is memory foam, I'd say about a 3 inches deep.

I've been into Preston today and have been looking at the Silent night Davina Dream, Cherish and the Rest Assured Sanctuary mattresses. Do you have any advice on those? Also if we decided to go for just a new mattress would our bed frame have an impact on the comfort of the mattress? We currently have a pine slatted bed.

    Thanks

Oh, and it's non-turn, but Which? did a 10 yr test and it stood up to it fine, so I'm not worried! (Besides, the pocket sprung turnable mattress that we've just got rid of only lasted 5 yrs, so being turnable isn't the be all and end all.)

It does also depend on the quality of the mattress. No quality mattress should fail within 5 years if it is looked after properly.
  • Memory foam is very comfortable but be warned it can be very warm... :)

Memory foam shouldn't be too warm as long as the memory foam layer isn't too deep, and it is on top of full size steel springs rather than reflex foam or reflex foam encapsulated pocket springs.

If you are still worried about the temperature, then some are available with climate control fabrics like Climasmart or Outlast.

Has anyone any experience of the Claydon Memory Foam mattress and/or divans that are currently being sold by Homebase. They have supposedly been reduced by 50% but I can't find any reference to the claydon brand on google. Any thoughts on this?

They appear to be exclusive to Homebase. They don't give much away on the web site, so it might be worth going into the store to find out the spec.
