The posts in this thread all seem to be assuming a vented cylinder. Worth checking before something goes bang?

In my defence :D I would always do a complete swap. if the thermostat is on it way out , what condition will the rest be in???

Why change a working immersion heater when it is only the thermostat that is faulty.

Sounds an expensive way of doing things, do you always replace everything when something goes wrong, if a car needs a new radiator do you buy a new car?

If I was replacing the radiator , I would change the bottom hose !!

So by your logic in the case of the immersion heater, if the bottom hose went you would change the radiator as well because you are not sure what condition it may be in.

Well good for you, I wouldn't, where does it end?..

If only the 'stat has gone, it is 5 minute job to change, changing an immersion heater is far more difficult.

Who is to say that new immersion heater will last any longer than the old one anyway?

If my experience is anything to go by it won't
