I am trying to find reports in our local newspaper from 20 or so yrs ago. I have the persons name & location plus subject matter. I am unsure about the year so would be prepared to start at 1980 and work up.
How exactly do you type the information in the search bar to ensure you received precise results?. I always thought it was something like:-
john smith + town + subject + 1980
or are quotation marks required. I aim to use as many search engines as possible.

If you put anything in quotation marks then that word MUST be in the search. I dont think the year would be relevent and im unsure how much information youd be able to find (if any) in an era when the internet didnt even exist (At least like it does today). If you use google search you can search a specific website too (probably can on them all but I use google most of the time)
So im highly doubtful youd be able to find anything im afraid:idea:0 -
from family history research most of this sort of search involves going to the local Archive and looking through the microfiche reels if they hold copies of the local newspapers. I've found pictures of my brother during a flood in Catford that were not indexed but just in a box on a shelfEx forum ambassador

Goto a library and search the back issues, also look for the micro fiche copies. The the paper themselves?0
