Housing Benefit: Do I have to declare it if my family lent me money?

I have used entitleto to calculate my HB, it says the most part of my rent and CT will be covered by HB and CTB if I only work 10 hours and earn 60 pounds a week.

I have three questions here:

1: How accurate is it? Will the council pay out roughly the same figure?

2: My family wants to help me while I am trying to set up my own business as I will not have any money for food nor for bills if I only have HB and CTB. I wonder if my family lends me money on monthly basis, will it deemed as a income? Do I need to declare it to the council? Will it be better if my family lends me a lump sum(5000 pounds) and I declare it as my saving?

If I don't say anything about the loan, will the council think I am earning extra money undeclared (it's easy to figure out I will not survive if I only earn 65 a week, although I have the help of HB and CTB.)

3: How long will my HB and CTB last? Is there a maximum limit one can have? Surely not whatever and forever, I am wondering ...

    1. It is accurate if the input is correct.
    2. If you are earning £60pw, how can you not have money for food/bills? Many people get less than that in benefits and survive. Perhaps your family could provide a roof over your head while you begin the business?
    3. It lasts while your income is low.

    Thank you for your input.

To answer your question: because my current rent exceed the maximum LHA ( south London) and I cannot get out of my contract until 8 months later. My 60pw income will be mostly gone after I pay the difference in rent and London transport.

My parents have retired and moved overseas. I am on my own here.
  • Again, does anyone know if I need to declare it if my family lend me money? Most importantly, will it be deemed as my income?

You perhaps understand it better now about why I still decided to work 10 hours a week at a place I hate to death after all - that 10 hours of work is to cover the difference on the top of HB.

It's a bit silly to get tetchy when you don't get a reply from a post in the middle of the night!

I understand irregular financial help which still leaves you below the thresholds is deemed capital.
  • How much are you borrowing?

Oh, no no no no no ..... I was not irritated at all ... I was just wondering if I didn't make the question clear - just to ask the question again in a different way ....

Sorry for the misunderstanding :p - I should have expressed myself better.

The truth is that I am hugely grateful for anyone's help - I never thought anyone has any obligation to help me, but if someone does try to help I am always grateful ...:lovethoug

guess i should use pictures more ... instead of words ....:p
  • it's very easy to be misunderstood on here .....lol, just ask again and a nice person will come along !!

    Thank you for the info!

Is capital treated the same as 'saving'? Do I have to declare it?

If I receive different amount every time but have the help every one or two month, will it be deemed as 'regular'.

So... if they do think I have 'regular help' (from family or friend's - a loan, NOT A GIFT), will they say I have a extra 'income'.

May be it's better I get a loan form my bank?
