This is not a bad laptop for the money.

Only thing I don't like is that it has a 'Celeron' processor.

Which is basically like a diet pentium.

    HTH.

Have a look at this laptop - free delivery and a 2.8 GHz P4 with a DVD writer for only £586. It is refurbished but still comes with a 1 year warranty.  Only 15 left in stock.

EDIT - and most importantly if you are planning to run Windows XP, this laptop includes double the RAM. Am tempted myself at this price - anybody have any discount vouchers ;)
  • Hi Ukwomble.

Thats a very hard question to answer when we dont know how you will use it.But i hope this is of some help

Will you intend playing Halflife 2 for instance or using pinnicle to do your home movies from your dv camcorder.

Or are you more likely to watch a dvd, write a letter , surf the net,use autoroute ,load pics from your digi camera.etc.

If its the latter ,i have an IBM T22 that does all that, and thats only a p3 900mhz with 256mb ram,20gb HDD running xp pro.Cost about £200 on ebay

Good point Amancalledchip. Alot of my friends go out and pay top price for the latest pc. WHY OH WHY OH WHY....I want to use the internet, I want to view my digital pictures, I want to play games. Apart from the latter most low spec computers will do all that for a great deal less cost.

Before buying a laptop or pc think why and what you are going to use it for...If you need to buy a laptop yes, correct in checking the spec but also consider the weight. My niece had a laptop for xmas it nearly gave me a hernia.

Remember: The more software you receive in most cases means you are buying a sub standard pc/laptop. Do you really need that garden software, extinct dinosaur, playing with numbers, digberts big day out......Nope I dont think you do......most of the software you receive is usually free with the latest magazine for a couple of pounds...

    all the best

If you want to play games on a laptop I suggest waiting for the Mobility Radeon 9800 graphics card. Im holding off till it gets cheaper. Currently only Dell has it. Hopefully by the middle of this year should be cheaper :D Need this baby as a total desktop replacement so :)

Shame the Acer laptop only has 256Mb of RAM otherwise it'd be one hell of a deal IMHO. I find Windows XP painful running on anything less than 512Mb of RAM. That said I do often have up to 15 programs running at once!
