Mortgage-free Glee! Hung up my suit! Xmas Saver!
Glad to help Meadows! Hope you have great time. We loved it there, make sure you hire bikes (or take your own) as the forest is easily cycleable and you can cycle to the pub/restaurants in nearby villages. The lodges were also pretty secluded at the back so the hot tubs are great fun.....! Reviews on tripadvisor in case you haven't seen. Comes out pretty well all round.

:) Thanks, have read Tripadvisor before I booked.
Our hot tub is on the front but is quite private, there is no need for anyone to come down the bit where we are.
I asked because I had read on TA that some are at the front, they had three available and put me in the best location (which I can see from the map). I will let you know what I thought of it when we get back.
Sounds a good idea to hire bikes might look into that. :)
Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.

Nothing new to add really but would definitely second Griffon Forrest, we got engaged there last year, had a brilliant break! Also my in laws love the tranquil otter and go at least once a year. Hope you have a great time!!
  • Sorry to bring up a slightly old thread, but I'm looking for something similar to the above. Ideally a nice 'retreat' or cosy 'hideaway' (with a hot tub and/or jacuzzi) for me and the girlfriend for her birthday, which is on 3rd April. This year it so happens to be coincide with Easter and so everything is more expensive!

We are based in the midlands and so would be happy to travel within 2-3 hours distance, which therefore gives a quite wide area! Looking for the Friday to Monday (2nd to 5th).

I'm looking for any suggestions which can top the one for Griffon Forest (near York) as mentioned above. This is a real stand out and my current favourite, although is rather pricey at just under £600 for the four days.

Just to give some comparison to other breaks we've had, last summer we had a week away at Tewitfield Marina near Lancaster on the recommendation of this forum and absolutely loved the place, so I'm relying on you guys again!

Have a look at https://www.hoseasons.co.uk .They have a massive range of lodges with hot-tubs.
  • The lodge holidays are generally more expensive than other forms of self catering and in Easter this is a very popular time to getaway due to the end of winter and people looking to take a short break. Maybe you could delay your holiday until after the Easter holidays and celebrate the birthday in another way, and go away later. There are loads of sources for log cabin holidays and static caravans so you may find something that is cheaper in another location. Try holidayparkhols.co.uk as an alternativ option, the lodges with hot tubs are more expensive than standard lodges, maybe you could stay in a lodge without a hot tub (which would be cheaper) and make use of the onsite facilities such as the Swimming Pool.
  • You could also try justlodgeholidays.com. They have all the Hoseasons lodges, plus a lot of others that don't go through Hoseasons.
