Hi people - It's my birthday today! (Thanks for the birthday email from MSE!) my husband has just bought me a Sony Bean MP3 player and I haven't got the first clue about where to go for MP3 downloads... How backwards am I?!
Can I tap into the rich vein of knowlege that lives within the MSE forums to find out some info? Can you guys give me any tips about where to get downloads cheaply (and dare I say it?) Free. I'm more interested in sites that don't make my computer spontaneously combust through some nasty virus or impload under the weight of spam.
Thanks for you help

PS - I'm going to post this on the techie forum, so if you see it please forgive me! Ta

you want to find a legitimate download site where you can legally purchase MP3's and not use sites that i'd tell you to use if you PM me as you're not paying for them but using P2P downloads or grey russian sites.
So 'don't' PM me asking for these details. I always (hahahaha) pay for my MP3 downloads and you should do the same.0 -

We're not allowed to talk about 'free' mp3's here for some reason. Best advice search the forums for "russian mp3" and there is a thread devoted to the discussion. Perhaps you could try that search term in google.com and see where it leads
HTHIt could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.0 -
Most record store now have a download section yeah you have to pay for them. iTunes is ok if you have a ipod but you need to convert the files to mp3for them to be useable on your sony player.
prettymuch all the free mp3 sites were closed down years ago, free mp3's now come from band sites mainly unsigned bands trying to get people to listen to their music, there are some good bands out there.
Your other option for free music is iilegal downloads for peer 2 peer sharing DC++ is good and torrents are o limeware is ok but you can get lots of junk on there that the record companies release to mess up the downloading. have a look at mininova.org for torrents any mods delete that if it isnt allowed0 -
Thanks Guys - I really appreciate your help
Beers are on me!

Happy Birthday! I don't know how to do this myself but I'm sure someone else will but you could change your existing cd collection into mp3 format, think it is just a case of downloading a mp3 converter, please correct me if I am wrong anyone.0

Which model do you have as some of the Sony Beans do not support DRM protected files, which would exclude you from the majority of the British Music download sites.
No point buying if you can't play them or you have to go through the process of burning them and then recoding them just to get them to play.Dave. :wave:0 -
You can rip any CDs that you have to mp3.0
