buy out right of way

Hi

I was just wondering if anyone can offer some advice. Our neighbours have a right of way through our garden. They have hardly excercised this in the two years I have been living here.

I would like to have this right removed so that no one other than my family have access. Obviously this would depend on the agreement of the owner of the neighbours property and compensation for the loss of right of way

I live in a row of terrace housing and was wondering if anyone had a similar experience where they did this. I am keen to gain an idea of a fair value of compensation.

Cheers

Would this give them absolutely no access to the rear of their property? What about bins, gardening rubbish etc? Not sure I'd like a house I couldn't get to the rear of TBH.

Since they have hardly exercised their right of way I assume they can reach the whole of their property fine.

    What tek-monkey says.

In their position, I would not give up the access. There is also a potential downside for you, in that if the problems tek-monkey mentions arise, then you have reduced the value of your neighbour's property. This can impact on yours.

What if they need to maintain the rear of their property?

Some neighbours did this when I was a kid by giving a piece of their garden to the people giving up the right of way.
    Been away for a while.
