Natwest Charges

Hello all. I'm sure this question has been posted before but I cannot for the life of me find it, so please excuse me if I'm repeating what you've seen 50 times over

About a month ago my account accidentally went overdrawn (I dont have an authorised overdraft - don't normally need it). It was only by a few pounds and it seems to have happened on a Saturday for a payment that (according to the date on it) wasn't due to come out till the Monday. I didn't see it till the Sunday and transferred enough to cover it at this point.

At the time I was slightly worried so took some screen prints (proving what date it all happened), but have now checked online and they're planning on charging me £28 on 11 September.

So my question is this - if I write politely to my bank manager, with a copy of my screen prints and plead ignorance, do you think they may reverse my charge? I really can't afford it as I keep to a very strict budget. Anyone else had a similar situation?

Many thanks in advance

I would ring and politely ask. I would hope they will be nice for a first "offence".

The process with natwest is that any payments IE Direct Debits due to debit your account on a Monday will debit on the saturday.

However you have up until 15.30 on Monday to ensure there is enough money in your account to cover the transactions.

If you have transferred money into your account from another account.

You need to call Natwest and tell them that the money paid in is to cover the transactions.

This will allow lending or the branch to change the status of the transactions in backoffice so you don't get charged.

  • Thank you so much for your replies. I'll give them a call tomorrow and see if they'll be lenient with me.
