hey there
hubby is moving the sky box to another room. He has made a t junction outside from the cable coming directly from the dish as he wants to keep the original connection in the original room in case we want to put the sky box back. Does anyone knoew whether he needs a special kind of cable or is is just co axial and where can he get some from (the special cable not the co axial)
thanks:beer:

You need a coax which is made specifically for satellite - PH100 type is the best. Available from from many DIY outlets now, or online at Screwfix, or try eBay if you don't need much.
Incidentally, not sure if you are aware or not, but you cannot simply joint a satellite cable to split it - you need to insert a power pass splitter between the three cables, a high frequency type made specifically for satellite, not a standard TV aerial splitter. If you make a simple tee-joint with the cables, this causes all sort of signal issues.
It is easier to run a second cable from the dish to the new location and seal the old cable end so that it is OK if you wish to reuse it. With the two cables installed, you could also change the LNB for a twin or quad output one in the future, and be able to use two sat boxes at the same time.
