  • Hi all

    I'm growing

    Padron
    Inferno
    Bulgarian Carrot
    Cherry Bomb

Would recommend Bulgarian Carrot in particular, chillis are hot and fruity, also very thick walled. I grow this most years it's so good. Sown them all last week (inside for now, will grow eventually in an unheated greenhouse in chilly shropshire). Good luck to you all I love reading these threads!

I grew cherry bomb last year and was dissapointed as they were very mild instead of burning hot, mine were in the greenhouse!

My cherry bombs last year were of similar heat to a jalapeño, which is par for the course really. Damned good croppers though, I got so many fruits from them.

    This years haul will be:

    Hot
    • Peach habanero
    • Dorset naga
    • Paper lantern
    • Scotch bonnet
    • Jalapeño
    • Cherry bomb
    • Hungarian hot wax
    • Cayenne

    Sweet
    • Sweet Bite
    • Romano
    • Feher

That's potentially 44 plants, plus whatever has survived in the greenhouse (good luck :rotfl:) and the ones I brought in and are scattered around the house.
  • Thanks for the replies! I have only grown the cherry bombs once before and from what I remember they were medium heat, not too hot (which I prefer). I got a good crop, so think they are worth another try.

Well, you've all just inspired me. I'm going to try sowing some seed from the 'medium hot' chillies I bought in Tescos last week. Fingers crossed that I get some fruits from them.
  • Hi everyone, I hope you don't mind me joining you. I cheated last year and bought a plant from Lidl,, the peppers were relly good and I am inspired to have a try from seed this time.
    I have
    Pinnochios Nose
    Jalepenos
    Cayenne
    and sweet peppers I have
    Californian Wonder and
    Tasty Grill Red
I am wanting to get them started as soon as possible any tips etc would be gratefully recieved. For instance do I need to warm up the compost the way I need to forsome other seeds?
    Thanks In anticipation

I have had no success with chillis in previous years, but have just received some seeds from The Real Seed Catalogue:

"Pretty in Purple" Rainbow Chile Pepper
    "Iranian Round" Chilli Pepper
    "Purple Venezuelan" Hot Pepper

So I hope to be able to contribute this year. :D
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.
  • welcome tprs, buggalugs and mrBE..

    Good luck with yout chillis!

Does anyone here soak their seeds in anything before sowing?

The chilli pepper co make a germination powder-
    (scroll down here) - http://www.thechilipeppercompany.co.uk/additional_germination_ideas.htm
    - and after a quick google I can see some people recommend soaking in a solution of saltpetre/ saltpeter... which may be exactly what the germination powder linked to above is...

    Any thoughts?
