Hello Experts! Having a little look around the site it seems like some of you are very knowledgeable when it comes to LHA.
Our situation is that I am a stay at home mother. We have two children and my partner works full time on a salary. He earns £205 a week after tax. We also receive Working Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit for two kids, one of which is under 1.
We've been offered a private rental and are just curious as to whether or not we'd be entitled to any percentage of LHA.
The property has a monthly rent of £545 and the LHA for the area and bedrooms is £115 a week.
Thanks.

You'd need to give full details of all your income for anyone to give any useful figures.0

Thank you real1314.
My partner's income is £205 per week. We also get £60 working tax credit and £107 child tax credit per week. There is £30 child benefit weekly too. So it's about £400 weekly.
Basically I just want to know if it is worth our time applying for LHA at all.
Adding it up in my head it seems as though we would make do fine with a total rent and council tax bill of £655 a month but any help would take the strain off until I can return to work.0 -
LHA - the "L" stands for Local - so rates vary from place2place...
earnings are more complicated than £205/week (before, after tax?? etc etc.. any variation in pay-packet>??)
Go talk to your local council & see what they say...
Many Landlords are not keen on HB/LHA...
Cheers!

I think you will get a better response from the benefits forum - on MSE?
Also do take a look at this link as you can find the answer if you fill in the bits and bobs.

the asking rent on thr property is by the by and not taken into account, you would only be entitled to the 2 bed rate in your area for the month you are applying as they chage every month, your children are expected to share. i would suggest on the basics of your details it is more that likely you will not qualify but your local council will happily do a calculation for you to see if you do qualify before you bother with the forms. I am an LHA assessor.0
