Bank charges on an account I'd forgotten I'd had - help!

From when I was a kid I had an account with Nationwide, which until the other day I had completely forgotton about. I went into Nationwide to open a saving account and they pulled up details of this account which was last accessed in 2003. It was £70 overdrawn. I have since provided them my new address and paid off the £70 balance. However, I have now received a notice of charges for over £600 of bank charges that are going to be applied to this account !!!
Surely Nationwide cannot do this ???!!

See when it was exactly in 2003, it may be Statute barred if it was over 6 years withouth you acknowledging the debt. You may not have even had to pay the £70. Check the exact month and come back on here or look up Statute barred on google.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Thanks for the advice.
The balance was from 8th August 2003, so I guess this is just about over the 6 years making it statute barred.0 -
If someone could now come along and post a link for a statute barred letter for
holmesdale it would be appreciated.
(Hopefully you didnt pay your balance before 8th August 09 or your banjaxed)
and i would ask for it back anyway.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

SB or not, I'd tell them to shove their charges. Unless of course, they would like to have a wee natter about them in court before the final outcome of the test case appeals process.
No, I didn't think they would.
Cabot can now kiss my DONKEY. Statute barred is enough of a result, but the actions of the CABOT FAN CLUB have cost them far more than the paltry sums they were chasing us for. :beer:0 -
