BMI Baby cabin luggage

Has anyone got personal experience of taking cabin suitcases on board BMI Baby aircraft. According to their website bags can only be up to 20cm deep but most cabin luggage (including our own case) seems to be 23cm. I believe cabin luggage has to be tried in a cage before boarding with hefty charges for oversize luggage so any advice would be gratefully received.

I flew from East Midlands recently and they dragged the cage to the departure gate and made everyone put their cabin baggage in before they could board, probably tagged about 50% of the passengers bags (and took the payments too).. not sure if this was a one-off or a regular occurrence0

As it seems to be a bit iffy whether they will check the dimensions or not, I bought a new case from T J Hughes. It is absolutely ideal for cabin luggage as it is just the right dimensions and only weighs 2 kg. It was £20 which is less than they would have 'fined' me for having an outsize bag.0
