Ideas for 60th birthday prezzie!

Options
Its my father in laws birthday at the end of May and we want to get him something special. Can anyone sugets anything a bit different? Been scouring the internet but everyone seems to sell the same thing!

He's a welsh valleys boy that comments on most things being 'gimmicky' so not finding this easy!

Thank you in advance for any help!

I've just got my dad (60th birthday tomorrow) a bottle of single malt whisky. I was completely stuck too, but this is from a very small distillery so quite "unique" and I know he doesn't have it in his collection. It was either that or a lovely bottle of wine, but I'd have drunk half of it - not much of a present for him! ;):D

A "Valleys Boy" T-shirt for a joke - gimmick! - plus something you know he'd like, according to his interests. National Trust membership/book token/rosebush/ Brains beer/Max Boyce CD/ Wales rugby shirt/ Welsh whisky/Welsh wine/weekend in Tenby/book of Welsh walks/book of Welsh pubs/ cinema subscription...

What does he like to do?
What about treating him to his favourite activity? You could arrange a big party for him with family, friends, a buffet, maybe live music or a disco.Or a night out, meal, theatre/cinema/music. Or a day out, National Trust property/country walk with pub lunch/seaside. Either of these things can be arranged either with him partner or with you & your DH, his grandchildren, whatever he would prefer.
When you get to that age you've often got all the 'things' you want & need & a fabulous memory is much appreciated.

    Thanks for replies.
FIL is organising a BBQ party. All of his 5 children and familes are coming. We are scaterd all over wales and youngest in army so photo would be difficult - something i considerd but we managed to get one at a BIL's wedding in Feb.
He bought himself a champagne magnum for the occasion......makes it harder when he buys himself prezzies!
    I like the t-shirt idea!
I am thinking of puting a hamper together of all kind of things. Booze, family bits, jokes etc. My 4 yr old son wants to do decorations! So we will probably take a car full of party hats, helium balloons and alike!

When it was my FIL's 60th (some years back) we all clubbed together and bought him a gliding lesson. Maybe something like that - a hot air balloon ride or something else completely out of the ordinary. At least it would give him some memories and you could take some pics to put in an album for him.

Is there anything you know he's always wanted to do or is really interested in? Could you all club together as a family to get him something you wouldn't normally be able to afford? For my dad's 60th we organised a driving day where he got to drive 5 different cars around a race track (not very good on cars but I know one was a Morse car and one was a Bond DB7 one). He enjoyed it so much and we took loads of photographs so he has one on his wall to remind of his fantastic day. I don't think I've ever seen him so excited - he was like a kid in a sweet shop!:cheesy:
Maybe something like that? There were 4 of us putting together for that prezzie so it didn't cost any more than all of us going out individually and getting different things. HTH
