Car still leaks oil after garage repair

My sisters car was leaking oil and so it was taken to a local garage and fixed at a cost of £257 (the car only cost £600).

They replaced the oil sump, timing belt kit, oil and oil filter change, sealant etc.

A week later i notice drops of oil on the road. It has steadily started leaking oil again, not as much as before, but its getting worse everyday.

Should the garage fix it at their cost?

Thanks

Thats a tricky one, the garage could say that by taking the car away you accepted the repair, or the oil could be leaking from somewhere different now, or as well there could have been a build up of oil somewhere which is just flowing out now

It is not tricky, the above are excuses garages might use, but they don't wash. If the car was put in to have an oil leak fixed, then plainly they have not done what was requested.

When I have work done at my dealership I'm sure there's something on the receipt which says it is guaranteed for 3 months!!!

CBA to dig them out tonight and look but IIRC that's the case.

So shouldn't yours be the same?

Has your sister actually taken the car back and complained if not I would suggest she does soonest.

The work was done two weeks ago tomorrow. The car didnt leak oil for the first week. It was only noticed at the start of last week. But, it was hard to tell as there were already oil marks from the previous leak.

But, steadily over the past 4 days it has got worse but no where near what it was like before it was done at the garage.

    She has just phoned them.

You're assuming that it's leaking oil again as a result of shoddy workmanship... but what if it's a new problem? Might be unlikely, but you need to be sure. They might have fixed the existing problems perfectly well, but now something else has gone wrong or given way. After all, it is an old car.
