maximum disk size for dimension e520

I have already walloped a 500gig disk into my e520 and it worked although vista would tell me there was a problem if i looked at properties.
This disk was refurbished and its been packing in.
I checked spec for the e520 and it said it can take upto 2 disks (each upto 320gig).
Now running out of space on the pc which has only 160gig and I want to put a new disk in - does anyone know if 500 gig would work ok in the e520 - my own trial above was diluted by the fact it was a refurbished disk.
