Hi, I don't know about cars, so hopefully someone more technical will come along soon.

I have a Honda Civics have a great reputation, they are very reliable and good solid cars (I drive a HC and that is just my experience).

Whether it is worth the money they are asking for it is another thing entirely. Firstly, £300 is just the starting bid and the price could go a lot higher than that, depending on how many other people are interested in it. You can get an idea of what a car of that age might go for by checking out similar cars on Auto Trader.

Secondly, its value depends on its history, how it has been treated and looked after, and its current condition. Really the only way to know that is to go and test drive the car, preferably with someone who knows about cars.

you'd probably get more folk who know across on the motoring and public transport board.;)

My sil drives a new type Civic, likes it but wouldn't have another because of the poor visibilty out the rear window.

I have k-reg accord. Mechanically Hondas are great cars and reliable. However parts are very expensive. The only time mine never started first time was when he battery died - or I fugged turning the key. Even after letting it stand for 6 months it started first time.

Bad bits are the electrics/electronics, expensive servicing - my last major one cost me £600 3 years ago and a basuc one £150 and these are non dealer prices.

If the indicator bulb goes, you have to change the whole indicator unit which cost £35 10 years ago. The ABS computer costed £1300 and so does the abs pump these prices do not include fitting, are 7 years old and because my car was not common, so could not get parts in a breaker;s yard.

break pads are £200+ and even the battery in mine is not a common one - halfords do not do them.

that exhaust, if it is the cat that has a hole then I would not guess the price.

If you are big and depending where you are big, then this car may not be acceptable?

My next car wll probably be another Honda.

I only past my test 2 years ago, and i have this car, mine is a p reg, just had a new battery In January and this was fitted by a mechanic friend and he said this is the only time the battery had been changed, so lasted a long while and it was £35 which i didnt think was expensive.

Personally i would go for something cheaper to repair for a first car. During your first twelve months on the road you will still be going through a steep learning curve and gear boxes clutches and wheels tend to take a hammering all of which will not be cheap on a honda. I would also beg the question if he couldnt be bothered to get the small things he mentioned fixed most of which can be done with a half decent set of tools (especially as he stated he has the parts) and a good scrap yard what else has he not bothered to do to the vehicle over the time he has owned it. :-) x
