ipod - not responding??

I have a 160gb ipod, it is not working. It just shows apple logo all the time.
I can get into disk mode, but i cannot get it to sync with itunes, if i could i would be able to restore it.
Have tried to reformat it through My Computer but all it does is say it is not responding.
Any suggestions?
Do the think the hard drive has called it a day?

yes I second ipod lounge as a great resource. I think tho the prob vould be with the computer associating it with a hard drive letterSelf confessed Florida expert
