Hi everyone - I need your help and advice please.
Got up last tuesday to find fridge not working in frost free fridge/freezer and light inside fridge constantly flashing and everything extremely warm. Product is only 16 months old but decided not to call out Hotpoint as charge just for looking is £100!!!
Find in local thomson directory a frost free specialist with no call out charge and 12 months guarantee on work (a local Company but has been around for many years). The guy came to see us on tuesday evening (very promptly) and said the circuit board had gone but couldn't get one till Friday and part would be £80 + vat. He came on Friday and fitted part and asked for £135 (this included labour) and said he thought it would now be ok but if not he would refund us. I telephoned him today to say still not working and he said he would call again today which he did and he said he thought it was the sensor on the door but he needed to take advice as he had never come across this before and he would contact me on Monday - ( a whole week without a fridge). After he had gone I took the panel from inside the door and 2 magnets were there - one of which had fallen out - I pushed it back in refitted the panel and hey presto it all sprung into life.
I telephoned the guy to say I had fixed it and he could refit our old circuit board and give us a refund and he said he did not want to discuss it on the telephone and we would not be getting a full refund but a part refund and he would contact me on Monday.
Where do I stand with this - I have offered him £20 for his trouble (at tops he has spent 1 hour in my house in 3 visits) but in my mind he has not solved the problem, the part he put in was not the problem and I have fixed it myself. Surely as an EXPERT he should have known about the magnets???
Can anyone give me help and advice

Need even more help?
Does anyone own this model freezer? If so does it run continuously or does it cut out and then re-start. Since "crap engineer" looked at it - it now appears to be running continously and am sure it didn't before.
Can you help - don't want to contact Hotpoint as they charge you to even talk to you.
Thanks

If you took out a warranty with 'domestic & general', it would cover all parts & labour costing you a lot less than calling out any white goods engineer without one. I have found them particularly useful for my washing machine and cooker. No need to worry about call charges or parts because the warranty is much cheaper than paying seperately each time.
Try it and see.....0
