I haven't told my family - apart from my children who have been amazingly, wonderfully supportive - my brother would have a field day, sister lives in Oz, my mum is too elderly so thought best not
My OH told his brother & wife-0f - they no longer speak to us, hey ho
We told ALL our friends - they've been amazing, bent over backwards to help, listen, offer advice etc.,
Who needs family when you have friends eh? :T
Try not to take it too much to heart Miche, sticks & stones & all that

peppa - thats a good idea to write it down. It does usually make you feel better, you could even write it as a letter to sis and if things ever get to breaking point even let her see it.

Isn't it amazing how jobs can be shed with just a moment's notice... Or how about that foxy manager he is working with, wouldn't it be awful if the walking wallet left your sister and she would have to manage on her own.
Ah but you could come to the rescue
) Because after all you have already been through all this.
You know something your sister is obviously very sad, very disillusioned and probably has no idea of the extent of her own debt. If the banks called in her debts today, she doesn't sound like she has the intellect to survive.
Personally speaking I would have no compunction in walking away from that family member - sure it will upset others, but you would not have been forced to do it if she had kept her opinions to herself, or her mouth shut, or if she had not been proactively provoking you.
Good luck sweetie - you really deserve better!0 -
Hi MicheH,
Sorry to hear your sister is being like this
Luckily my family have been incredibly supportive even though I owed one family member a substantial amount of money.
However, you could try pointing out to your sister that in the vast majority of cases, items have not been acquired "for free". BR is usually the last resort of financial problems which have been evident for years. In my case, I can trace some difficulties back for more than a decade. For many, whatever was bought with the initial borrowings is back in the midst of time and long gone; the capital cost having already been repaid sometimes many times over. It wasn't until I sat down to try and work out my own SOA that I realise just how much of my credit (ignoring the business debts) had been taken simply to repay other credit
If your sister is one of those who looks on her husband as an all knowing deity, I suspect any explanation will fall on deaf ears, but it might be worth a try. Let's hope her husband is lucky enough to keep his fantastic job - there are many more who will find themselves in the same position as us before the economy improves.BSC 2710 -
Hi
Sorry to hear that you sister is being horrible about it. You were probably better not having her as guarantor anyway if she is being like this. OHs family are being really good about our BR and his eldest brother offered to guarantor when we were struggling to rent a flat.(We didn't need him to in the end.) My sister doesn't understand but worries about us I think. At the end of the day if your sister has to get her jollies by hurting you what a sad sorry life she must have, what you see often isn't what is actually happening.
Don't forget you can have load of things and not be happy and next to nothing and be really happy (I hope that makes sense) Look at the BR board and there are loads of people that would rather live happily on egg and chips than have loads of bills and credit.
I hope this makes you feel a little better

What a mean cow. Tell her to eff off, the miserable dog. I admire your patience - I would have snapped by now. But again, perhaps you should? Perhaps you should tell how nasty she is being, your whole life has been destroyed (milk it a bit) and how the one person you hoped you could rely on, appears to enjoy taking the pss.
Better still, give me her phone number and I'll tell her for you.
Free?? My !!!!. I am cross now - so I can imagine how you must feel. Silly cow needs a slap.
I may come back and post something later when I am in a better frame of mind and I might have something constructive to say!0
