Hi, me and my partner have been renting a top floor 2 bed flat for about 6 months now and its all totally electric (economy7) and our supplier is E-on, when we first arranged our electricity with them, they told us that £50pm would be sufficient, over the coming months we were owing more and more, to the point that we were £180 in debit, we rang them up and told them that there must be something wrong, so we did the whole 5 day reading thing, gave them the readings and didnt hear back, called them again and did the process again. Anyway, they came round to take readings themselves and just got back off holiday to an E-on statement saying that our DD payments were going up tp £141pm from September, call me tight but I think this must be way too much. Both me and my partner work and everything is turned off at the plug at night or when we go out, we have a PC, Plasma, phone chargers etc, but surely £1500-£1700 per year is a rip off. . I'm new to all this paying my own bill malarcky, so any advice would be greatly appreciated. . Thank you.

The average household with gas pays approx £1300 pa.

Electricity only properties pay more as even with E7 it still costs more to heat.

Without knowing the size of your flat and standard of insulation it is impossible to say the amount of your annual bill.

However something in the region of £100 or so a month would be reasonable. If you have only been in the flat 6 months and have run up a debit balance over the summer(with little heating required) £141 to get your account in balance by next Spring would not appear unreasonable. i.e. 6 months at £50 and 6 months at £141 is £1146

I ashume you have storage heaters, these use a lot of power if so. Would be worth speaking to energy efficency, take reads every day at the same time for 7 days you will see you usage. Also do you use a dryer?

I did think that the amount would be around £100pm, only made me question when I read a few posts on here in the 'electricity/gas' section saying some of their bills were alot less for a bigger home. Thought i'd ask to see what you guys thought and no one has said that its too unreasonable. . oh well, looks like thats how it is. . will have to look into some energy saving tactics. :j

Yeah we do but they have not been used since March, we have a washer/dryer but never use the dryer. I think the main culprit is the cooker and hob, might have to speak to the landlord about a better one as its the older type cooker/hob, thehob is solid plates that take a while to heat up. Will give energy efficiency a call. . thanks. .
