Hanley Sizzler 4% for 6 months

Apologies if already posted somewhere - but could not see it.

Hanley offering a limited edition six month bond at 4%. Minimum deposit £1,000.

Might suit some people (me included !).

    Excellent spot.

I just have the sneaky feeling that this means they will be merged in to a larger building society before the bond reaches maturity.

Suggests they may have a short-term liquidity issue and want to bolster their savings balances over the year end period.

Unfortunately, I think this product has now been withdrawn as the above link no longer works. Damn!

You beat me to it. A search of their website gets no hits either :-(

They probably introduced it because they had had a lot of redemptions on a 1 year fixed rate 7% offering that matured at end July 2009

    Anyway,

I went into a branch of The Hanley this morning and the Bond is still available. When I challenged them why it was not showing on their website they said it was due to a postal dispute in the staffordshire area.

They do not want loads of applications stuck in the Royal Mail sorting office so have removed it from the website, but if you go in branch it is still available.

Unfortunately, I live nowhere near one of their branches. I guess people like me will have to wiat until the strike is over and hope it will be offered again - if not fullly subscribed by then.

I think you're right - and I was one of those savers. If only they'd made this available at the time, I'd have stuck with them.

As the "Sizzler" has disappeared from the website, they have introduced a 3 year "Sunshine Bond". Full details at:

Received my passbook today for The Hanley Sizzler, which I sent off for on Monday, looks like it has closed for good now.

Just phoned them - and it is still open until tomorrow (Saturday). Unfortunately it can only be opened personally at one of their branches, so I guess that counts me and a large proportion of the population out
