Uninstall the Wi-Fi Device driver from either the programs menu or the Control Panel, install and run CCleaner which you can obtain F.O.C from http://www.ccleaner.com/
Once this is installed run it and also run it on the system registry too (you will be asked if you want to back the registry first and I would suggest that you do) Once the cleaner has complete restart the machine, you may be prompted to search for a driver at boot time when windows discovers the now un-installed Wi-Fi device on the laptop, follow the screen prompts, if it cant find the driver you must then locate the source of the Wi-Fi device driver and install from there (may be a CD ROM?).
When you have installed the Wi-Fi driver, restart the Laptop and try again, if same problem occurs then make sure the Wi-Fi device is seated correctly (most laptops have the Wi-Fi card situated underneath), it may have come loose.
Keep us informed of your progress, any more help or clarification needed then just ask, many folk on here will help.

Ahhhh....I had exactly the same thing recently, and I'm a bit of a techie so you can be sure that this was a little embarassing in the hotel WiFi I was trying to connect into! I even had their tech support telling me it should work!
I was trying to connect using the usual manual system but it would see the network and not connect (well, connected for one second, then !!!!!!, off again).
The problem was that I was attempting to bypass the Wireless Connection software that can with my O2 mobile internet dongle. This device controls the wireless connections, once it has been installed. If you connect using the options in this device, the connection would be OK. This is even with the device not inserted in the USB port.
If you are not using a mobile broadband dongle, or have not installed the software, then ignore this whole post!
to bypass this - (had similar issues) i uninstalled the software and manually set up the connection rather then trust the o2 software.
Before I did that I made sure to bookmark the usage checker address :TI feel like the day he died0 -
I had the same problem on my sons laptop, someone close to our house had upgraded to "wireless n"(the network was unsecured, but i dont know if this was relevant)since then, when he tried to connect to our network the laptop would bluescreen,i had to uninstall the wireless card and re-install an older driver that only supported 802.11 a/b standard, this solved the problem,a step backwards i know but at least it worked, hope this helps.
p.s, his laptop was the only one affected by this, and the maker (compaq)had stopped updating drivers for his wireless card about 4 years agoIf you think nobody cares if you're alive, try missing a couple of payments.0
