council tax when taking in a lodger

Hi, I have had lodgers for the last 4 years and have always paid the extra 25% council tax when there has been someone in the house but at the moment am unsure if I have to?
My current lodger will be with me for 6-24 months but also has a wife and child who he lives with in England when he is not staying with me. He will be staying with me during the week and unless he is working, he will be going home to England at the weekend.
Therefore my home is not his permanent or sole residence. I have no problems with paying the council tax but every penny counts if I don't have to

His other property will remain his 'sole or main residence' therefore he wont be ordinarily resident in your property and you are still entitled to the single person discount.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0
