They dont have to sell it to you at the lower price. I used to be a manger for one of the big stores. They can appologise and explain its an error on the shops part. Then by lawa veryone one of the items on the shop floor should be removed and kept off sale for 24 hours then put back on sale with the correct price
But yes I agree and always did give customers the items for the price on the shelf. Ive recently got in a spot of bother with a cooker but I knew they didnt have to honour the priceMad Mum to 3 wonderful children, 2 foster kittens and 2 big fat cats that never made it to a new home!
Aiming to loose 56 pounds this year. Total to date 44.5 pounds 12.5 to go. Slimming World Rocks!0 -
It is in their interests that I was able to come back onto this thread on a widely read forum and report that they had honoured the shelf price. They obviously didn't know that I would publicly complain about it, but it's a chance they presumably don't want to take.
I've heard that every bad experience is recounted to about 12 other people, or in this case probably about 12,000!I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

narabanekeater - did you work for an epos store? check your facts - it was drummed into us when i did store merchandising to get the front ticket right!!! an epos store is Electronic Point Of Sale - this means that the item is read by barcode at the till and doesnt have an individual price ticket. if you offer an item to the customer this way and they take it to the till this implies an agreed sale. a contract if you like. if u say oh sorry - it shouldnt be that price - the customer can either agree the new price you say - or say that you offered the item at a lower price and reneged on that agreement. proved in court time and again and the customer wins. this didnt happen when items were individually priced.
i have had this happen to me and the store manager has insisted that his higher price was correct (currys) so i told him to phone his area manager - result - i got the item (keyboard) at the price displayed on the front ticket0 -
It is true that you don't have to honour a cheaper price shown on the shelf, as long as you remove any incorrect prices from any products and remove the (incorrect) price shown on the label.
However Co-op will always refund you the difference out of goodwill (and most people think it's their right to get the product for the lower price anyway.)
On a side note, if you didn't want to travel to the store just for the refund, their free phone customer services number would have dealt with it for you and probably given you a bit extra in vouchers.
I work for them a few months a year but I also shop there when I'm not working..0 -
I still have a problem with the fact that they can show one price on the shelf, but are completely within their rights to charge you anything they like. I was only buying four items (so a 50% accuracy rate - might email them about that!) but if you were doing your week's shopping there you wouldn't have a chance of spotting all the errors while they were being rung through.
Given that most of us are shopping by price these days, therefore choosing the cheapest acceptable brand, to then find it charged perhaps more than one you might have preferred but was dearer seems to be tantamount to deliberate deception. I nearly did buy cheaper toothpaste, but decided as this one was on offer I'd have it instead. That's why I was so annoyed at the overcharge.
They might as well take all the price markers off the shelves if they are that meaningless. Most items are not individually priced on the pack nowadays anyway, so you have to rely on the shelf price don't you?I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

Prices are correct 99% of the time. Price checks are done every month for every section of the store, and we rarely find more than 10 products in the entire store that are priced cheaper on the shelf. It also works both ways as there are sometimes prices that are more expensive on the shelf.
The problem is that price tickets are generated for every product that co-op sells rather than store specific, so it is a very long task to make sure every product has its new label put out.
I always check my receipt in every store I shop in and regularly find price differences in all shops.. sainsburys, asda, tesco, morrisons etc. but there will always be people that don't notice.0 -
you may also be able to check the "special offer" tickets, if present, as they often have the end date printed on themRemember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?0

They can get into trouble for consitently displaying incorrect prices. However this doesn't affect your individual purchase. They do not have to sell it to you at that price. It's surprising how many people seem to think they do!
And yes, always check your receipts. It's amazing how often they are wrong, especially with special offer prices, where there is quite a degree for error between the till systems and the stickers on the shelves.0 -
This happens to me nearly everytime I go to our local Co-op.Different prices on shelves and at the till.
I have been so exasperated with this that I even emailed head office about it on one occasion.
They sent a very apologetic email and said they would look into the matter.
That was the last I heard and it's still happening now 12 months later.
I now make sure I check my bill everytime I go there but I do wonder how many people don't bother and think they have picked up bargains eg.BOGOF when actually they havn't.
I have decided that this is a CO-OP Policy......cheat the customer.
Makes my blood boil.

This has happened to me at the Co-op,Tesco's and Bugen's. I've been caught a couple of times so I know double check my receipt whilst in store.
Have always had money refunded but it's a pain at the time.0
