I recently closed my Amex credit card account - there was a £5.20 credit balance.
I couldn't spend it as I forgot the pin number!

I have written to Amex numerous times asking them to return the credit but get no response.

Can I make a claim and can I also claim back postage and cost of phone calls ( 8 letters @32p) and 3 phone calls (on the office phone but so far about 40 minutes on the phone)

If I have posted in the wrong place feel free to move it
Total debt at 01/01/2010 £34,262 (Excludes mega mortgage) Daily interest £12.42
02/10 Now £3.12 due to repayments, BT and :money:
Olympic challenge £5081/£28,000 (18.15%)
Aim to lose 35 lbs from 01/01/2010 to 30/06/10 9.5/35
1 debt in 100 days £2886/£3839

Have a look at Money Claim Online.

I don't know whether there is a minimum claim amount, but there seems to be a minimum fee of £25... refundable if you win.
  • Thanks - I can't find any evidence of a minimum amount on the link uyou mentiond. I didn't want to write to them threatening legal action I had no recourse to court.

Hopefully the threat of court action for a £5 debt will galvanise them

You may well find that it is thrown out of court as being a waste of Court time.

Why not try the Financial Ombudsman Service.

How do I access the FOS - do I just complain to the FSA?

I've googled it but it takes ages to load and then just gives up

    No.

As Tozer said, The Financial Ombudsman Service.
