Virgin Credit Card

Can anyone help me with the Virgin Card terms and conditions?

I did a balance transfer last November at 0%, and being a good MSE I didn't use the card for retail transactions.

Now, at the beginning of March I made payments that brought the outstanding balance transfer down to £70 owing. So I put through a transaction online, as I knew I would have enough money in April to clear both the £70 outstanding and the £16.50 retail charge.

April statement issued on 5th April, retail transaction went through on 3rd. Now Virgin are saying that as I have a rolling balance, i.e. did not clear my MARCH statment I am liable for interest on the retail purchase from the day I put it through, not from the next statement date. This is not outlined on the back of the statement in the little T&C box. So I was charged £0.02 in interest. I complained and was refunded, but they say it is standard policy that if you do not clear the balance the month before, any retail transactions during the month will have interest applied immediately.

I am now very confused as the T&C box on the back of the statement says 'retail transactions will have interest applied from the date they are added to the account, except if the balance is cleared in full by the due date'. I have cleared the £86.50 before May 3rd so surely I should not have been charged any interest anyway?

Can anyone explain this? And are should Virgin be including this 'rolling balance' clause on the statement?
