Merchant Interest - anyone know what this is?

My friend has a transaction on her credit card bill (for a few quid) that says 'Merchant Interest'.

Before she rings the company, could anybody shed any light on what this may be for, please.

Thanks

May I ask which credit card is involved?
Wouldn't be Santander/Abbey by any chance?

    Hi
you may ask - but I can't tell you. ;)

I said I'd ask on here for my friend and then ring her if anybody could tell me what it is but I've no idea what card she uses.

I'll ask her when I ring her soon.

Have you had something similar from Santander/Abbey?

That would be good. Some things are pretty standard across the industry it's true, but there's considerable variation between lenders as well.

Yes, if memory serves, I was charged a quid or so about 12 months ago. I haven't encountered the expression "merchant interest" anywhere else.
I wish her luck with her enquiries.

    Very best
