I've just shown my girl the video in the link above. She's now much more enlightened (as am I). It's a shame you have to learn to view things as cynically at such a young age but it's all a lesson in life.

I can remember my dad winning loads of prizes at a fair in Finsbury Park late 70s. He grew up using rifles in the country so is a great shot even if they mess about with the sights. He'd won teddies for me off the shooting gallery and then proceeded to shoot through cotton strings holding up fag packets (shows how long ago lol wouldn't be pc now to have have cigs as a fairground prize) and when he shot through the cotton holding up the star prize a £20 note a woman said to my mum 'its not fair he's obviously with fair' my mum replied 'I wish he was unfortunately he's my husband.'

Alas, he would not win anything now. The sights on the rifles are so out of whack.

I have always wondered if I could take my own airgun and have a go.....?

I'd have gone back, only with my own bigger hoops under my jacket, and if they didn't clearly explain "using our hoops" when handing them to you, I'd have then got my larger hoops out and proceeded to play. :)

Hey, who wrote the rules? You didn't say I had to use your hoops. :rotfl:

One of those hula-hoops would do the job. :D
  • ring toss must be the oldest ruse in history!

best to wait til asstisant is serving someone else then (if tall enough!) lean over and place ring right around chosen prize..

they may not like it, but hey!

There's a Hook A Duck stall at my local fair, where you get to keep on trying until you're successful - now at least that can't be a con! :D

The 'con' is when you pay 2 quid for the shot(s) and win a soft toy which probably cost the stall owner 50p to buy in. :D

No you get to pick which prize you want from the entire stall because I'm a big boy now, a soft toy, a plastic gun or even a lovely belt buckle so probably more along the lines of 20p - but everyone loves having the choice. :rotfl:

I remember when I was a kid and had a go at a fairground target shooting game. basically you had to shoot a cork gun and knock over sweets. any sweet box you knocked down, you won.

So I shot down a load of boxes of roses, quality streets, etc.

The fairground guy just goes "I didn't see you knock anything down." and because they fell behind his stall, where he was standing, I couldn't prove anything. It's then that my hatred of fairs began.

At least I won 5 pairs of cigarettes at a fair when I was 15, which I gave to my friend's mum cos it was her birthday lol.
