Trouble is, I like to spend on my Egg card as I earn cashback, but I guess I could credit my Egg account with my debit card to keep the balance positive.
Why not just mule an amount which is £4,000 less what you're planning to spend before the BT/BACS transaction is likely to be posted, ie in the next 7 days or so?

I know, but I didn't think of that until after I started the transfer. Never mind. You live and learn :)

I've started the transfer from Egg to my current account...
Just out of interest, is this the old Egg Money card or the new one?

Also, which method have you used? If you've done an online BT request, ie from 'Egg Money admin'/'transfer a balance'/'current account overdraft', please post back if they do charge a fee automatically.

This is the old one. I've had it for a year and a half now, and yes, that is the way I transferred the balance. You've got me a bit worried now!!! lol. Do you reckon I'll be stung?

    I have no idea.

I'd decided that since the new T&Cs came into force I'd always ring my requests through as BACS transfers, because I wondered if their systems weren't clever enough to distinguish between a positive and negative balance with regards to charging a fee.

After all, now that there's no interest paid on positive balances, there's no reason to keep very large (up to £99,999.99) positive balances on the account...although pre-loading your monthly spend is still encouraged (due to the generally poor limits given latterly on this product).

Hmmmm. Good point. If they do decide to charge me. I'll ring up and complain, seeing as the money is transferred to my account ultimately using the same method (BACS), plus they have the luxury of holding onto my money even longer.
  • You will get charged on the amount you effectively went overdrawn by, this happened to me for exactly the same reasons you described, so expect a £3 charge for every £100 you 'borrow'.

Sweet. So if I don't go overdrawn (so to speak), I should be OK
