Australian vs UK laptops

Hi all
I need a new laptop and have obviously been looking for best prices.
However, I'm going to Australia for a year or so, in a couple of months and, having hung on with my old laptop this long, I'm wondering if it's best to buy one in Aus, (so, for example, that I get after-sales back up more easily.)....or is it best to get one over here and just take it with me?
Does anyone know...how do Australian prices compare with UK, (for basic cheap laptop).
Does anyone also know...where the best places/websites in Australia to buy one might be?
thanks all.

interesting predicament
do you buy here and lose warranty period but still have soga protection after or buy abroad in the unknown and get whatever they may offer
i dont have a clue:) sorry but good luck to youBack by no demand whatsoever.0 -
First - the prices are the same
Second - You don't have the choice of models as over here
Third - Several keys are not the same
Spend over $300 and Oz tax reclaimed when you come home, don't get caught by our customs

I moved from the UK to Australia in 2006, I bought a Dell laptop in the UK before leaving as I needed to take documents, emails etc. with me and my desktop would take 3 months to arrive. My Dell has not let me down so I have not made any warranty claim from Dell UK or Dell Australia. There are minor differences between a UK and Australian keyboard, mainly the Aus does not have a £ key and the ", /, @ and a few others are in different places.
Some Australian price comparision sites:-
http://www.staticice.com.au/ - electronics & gadgets
http://www.shopbot.com.au/
http://www.myshopping.com.au/
Some discount stores:
http://www.oo.com.au/
http://www.dealsdirect.com.au/
http://www.catchoftheday.com.au/ - this has different item(s) for sale at midday Sydney time for 24 hours, occasionally they have laptops
http://www.zazz.com.au/ - similar to above although I've never seen Laptops on here
http://store.9289.com.au/
Dell Australia is at http://www.dell.com.au/
Or use Google Australia www.google.com.au to find laptop prices.
To convert AUS$ to GB£ go to http://finance.yahoo.com/currency-converter#from=AUD;to=GBP;amt=1
I'm not sure if I could have reclaimed VAT when I left the UK0 -
