Assuming you can't for whatever reason just access your mailbox via webmail for the week, you'll probably need to set your outgoing SMTP server to the one that Tiscali provide, and may also need to authenticate the connection to their server using your mate's username and password, depending on whether they check that or not.

Like many ISPs, TalkTalk won't relay email from an IP address that they don't own, as "open relays" are a major source of spam.

Have you considered using webmail instead?

You might consider moving to an email provider that is independent of your ISP, such as Google Mail.

Losing your email account every time you switch ISPs sounds like an enormous pain in the bottom, and its not as though they offer any compelling features over the competition (quite the reverse in fact).

-Tanglefoot- and Marty J have very good points. I use Googlemail myself and have never felt the need to change. You should be able to set your talk talk email account to forward messages to web based email, then access them from anywhere.
Googlemail is one of the few that can be configured with a POP email client ie: Outlook Express, making logging on to the website unneccessary.
Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!

Actually, I was suggesting that they access their TalkTalk e-mail account with their web browser rather than acquire an entirely new address, but it makes little difference either way.

You'll need his ISP's outgoing email server to use outlook etc from his.

    something like smtp.tiscali.co.uk

I have an old Virgin.net email address I still use for incoming emails, but I cannot send emails unless i take my laptop down stairs to my phoneline and connect to Virgin's dialup service.
Perhaps it's a similar issue, outgoing email restricted to using their connection.

Another vote for getting an independent Email provider. I've used Google mail for years now and havent deleted a single email. It might sound a bit obsessive but its actually really useful being able to search back over years of correspondence.

that is because you need to have the correct SMTP address for the ISP your using. clarksonwayne Hit the hammer on the preverbial head.

I access my work emails from home - have to. I use my google mail's outgoing server address to send email from all my accounts :T
