  • Applied to up my limit yesterday on line from £10500 to £15K.. Got a message today saying it was approved.

My next tack is to repay Black in a couple of weeks, apply for a Gold card straight away then try & get up to £25K on that.

My egg anniversary is Feb so I need to get the FD stooze routed through there & clear in good time to stooze the egg in full before the end of that month.

If you miss the date you can always ask for an Egg Blue. It doesn't have a 0% BT period but can still be used to route money through from other cards to your bank account.

Does anyone know whether you can go FD Gold to Black please? After chatting to them and expressing an interest on the phone, they sent me an application form out for FD Gold (their choice, not mine). Includes 0% for 6 months but noting the comments above, it could actually be better applying for Black first? Also, as they sent out the form after a phone conversation, I could miss out on the 6 bottles of free wine?

Will also apply for a current account in case this helps get higher credit limits etc although I don't really need another one ...

I seem to remember hearing about people doing it, though I forget where. I notice with internet banking you can request to convert Black to Gold at the click of a button whereas Gold to Black it says you must phone up. So I guess it will probably work but you might have to do some slick talking to convince them.

I'm not sure how much this will help. They are looking to see how you managed your account over time. If you have only just set it up and it is not your primary account (ie the one you pay salary in to) then it doesn't tell them much.

All those who reported getting very high limits had banked with them for years.

Just applied for First Direct Gold, did not want to waste time by going for the lower limit card, will see where things stand at the end of the 0% period.
  • Update...

Paid off my Black a few days ago save for about £200 which will be taken as a final min DD in a couple of days.

Went for it tonight and applied to convert my Black to Gold & requested a £25K limit to boot.

Promised a reply within 24 hrs
