Help! - Oven door shattered into pieces!!

I bought a Zanussi Fan oven from Sainsbury's on line in April 05. Yesterday the oven door just after use shattered into a 1,000 pieces! I had not banged it - it just happen. As it was made of glass it went everywhere - up to 6 foot away.
Do I go back to Sainsbury's? I did not take out an extended warranty but this must be a manufacturing fault in that the door should last more than 4 years in moderate use?
Or should I just claim on my contents insurance?
Any advice would be gladly received. I did take photos before I cleared up!

That happened to me (was under warranty) & I've heard of it happening to others.0 -
Same thing happend to my mum, with a different make of oven. I think it was in warranty though.
I would probably go straight to Zannussi, rather than Sainsburys as it is no longer in warranty, and see what they say.
If you get no luck with them then maybe go down the house insurance route, but as you will have your excess to pay, plus your premium will go up as you have had a claim, try the manufacturer first.Cross Stitch Cafe Member No: 86 :j0 -

Thought of this but the change in the Sale of Goods act says the seller should resolve with the manufacturer, but thanks for your reply Augustsmummy.0 -
As this seems to be a common problem, I would contact Zanussi first to see what they say, because they must know about it!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

This happened to a 18 month old Whirlpool fan oven last week. Not under warranty and cost about £110 to replace, including the engineer call out charge.
It only needed to last until next week and the house would have been sold!Today is the first day of the rest of your life0 -

Thanks Whalie. Its different to mine, yours has a lot more door IYSWIM. Mine is a double oven, a Zanussi ZUQ875X.
I was still quite cautious when taking the roast out yesterday though!
Hope you get it sorted. Could have been very dangerous.0 -
Your first port of call should be to Sainsbury's. They may put you in touch with the manufacturer who will presumably have a warranty in place. However from a legal standpoint the retailer is always your first port of call.0

Consider getting someone around to fit a new door, I doubt your cooker came with a 4 year warrenty, and proving that there's a defect will be impossible."Love you Dave Brooker! x"
