Hi all bought my son an xbox premium at asda about 9 months ago. they've said they'll exchange it as it has developed a problem but they never seem to have the 60 gb in stock so they said they'll refund me the cost 9£167) so I can buy elsewhere. I've noticed a lot of places only seem to have the elite now 120 gb. I'd prefer just to buy the premium again but I was wondering should I take the opportunity to update to an elite or does anyone know any good bargains anywhere for a premium at the moment. also what do I have to do about transferring his XBox live to the new machine does anyone know please? thanks for any help x

Is it the xbox 360 itself, or the hard drive that's faulty?
If it is the former then just get an exchange of box and replace the old hard drive. (this is where the saves, Xbox Live info and subscription details are held).
It's only a game

Why don't you get it repaired by Microsoft?0

Why don't you get it repaired by Microsoft?
thats your best bet, microsoft have improved their turn around time in repairs!
Rather than wait weeks for it to be in stock.
Unless you get more money back that what the premiums are going for? Try your local blockbuster for the premium, the problem is, the prices have dropped recenetly so the premiums and other ones are being faded out!0 -
thanks for the replies - sorry for the delay. It's actually just the microphone that's gone faulty but Asda said they had to exchange the whole lot which was great by me. they have said they will refund the money to buy another one elsewhere so no point in getting it repaired if I can get a new one. the elite is about £220 but don't know if I want to spend the extra £60 but is the extra memory the only difference between the Premium and elite - if the elite has better graphics etc maybe it would be better to get a new elite for an extra £60 or i'd just get a premium if there was a decent offer on but as I say Game for example don't seem to stock them any more0

if its only the microphone, then the best thing to do, again, is call microsoft with your console seriel number. They send you out a new microphone and it comes in less than 2 days usually.
No point in going through all the trouble of losing saved games etc... if you have a simple option?0 -
I never even thought about the saved games aspect (mainly because I haven't the first idea about how they work!!) - would this also be where his sbox live membership details are kept. I suppose the thought of getting a whole new system with a further year's guarantee is a big temptation.0

your right that does have a big temptation.
you dont have to worry about the xbox live membership providing you have the hotmail login details, you can recover your account to any hard drive. You have to ask the question though, do they give you a full warranty? Some places choose to change the equipment but your original warranty still stands?
Choose which ever you feel is best to you, but if the user actually has 100s of saved games on there, its important to see if they would be happy if they had to start every game from scratch0 -
I'd probably buy the console from somewhere else so presumably it would start with full warranty. he seems to be addicted to one game only at the moment I think it's call of duty he and his friends seem to spend most of the day shooting each other - hey ho - seriously I wonder if it is possible to be addicted! we've just come back from 2 weeks xbox free holiday and it was great not having to spend half the day getting him off xbox to do something else - like eating or bathing!! and he's only 13.0

but is the extra memory the only difference between the Premium and elite - if the elite has better graphics etc
There are no effective changes in the premium and elite from a hardware point of view. There are some changes under the lid made by Microsoft from time to time to make it easier and cheaper to make the console, and also try and defeat the hackers, but nothing (with the possible exception of the HDMI port) that will be apparant to you as an end user.0
