Problem with Servis Washing Machine - nearly 3 years on

Hi All

I've read through many posts about the administration of Servis in 2008, plus how its affected warranties etc however I'm not sure how this affects me in my situation.

The thing is - I purchased the washing machine in September 2006, from Whitebox.co.uk - so nearly 3 years has passed. I recall that the washing machine had a 3 or 5 year manufacturers warranty with it - so its still in manufacturers warranty. When I log in to 'My Account' on their website my order is there, but the details of the product on the order etc are gone. Probably to hide on their records that I bought a Servis product :rotfl:

So - does anyone know where I stand?
1) Does the Sale of Goods Act apply after this amount of time? Is it the vendors responsibility to provide a product fit for purpose after this amount of time, when within warranty?
2) If I paid by Credit Card (I shredded my statements before Jan 07 so I can't check at the mo - D'oh!) am I covered by them after this amount of time?
3) Do I have a cat in hells chance of getting anything (repair or replacement) out of anyone, or should I just go get a pint and chill out?

Any help is much appreciated
Cheers
Mark

  • Chill out. I had hell from trying to get a Hotpoint freezer replaced after just after 6 months, they repaired it, it broke down again after a few months, I binned it. Trading Standards didn't give a toss and neither did the shop or manufacturer.

Thanks, I guessed that would be the case. I emailed them with the whole 'Sale of Goods Act' spin but I doubt i'll hear anything back....

Thanks for your time, interested to hear if anyone else has any comments on it.....

With these sort of appliances it's all about the necessity of getting it sorted quickly. I recently did battle with John Lewis over a 36 month old lap top out of warranty, I got my free repair but only after wrangling for weeks and being without for 10 weeks! Call the government backed phone line on consumer advice and see what they have to say. You may be able to repair/replace at your own expense then claim back through small claims court.
